The reason why these these codecs are not included by default is legal constraints in many countries. “Ubuntu restricted extras” is a package of several codecs that are not installed by default in Ubuntu system. Install Ubuntu Restricted Extras for media codecs: The above command will update your system. Once done, open terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and use the following command: sudo apt-get update & sudo apt-get upgrade
